Osteria da K. [káppa], Tokyo

Osteria da K Kappa is a quaint seafood-focused Italian restaurant in Ginza. Located in the upper floor of a multi-purpose building (as do most restaurants in Ginza), it has a somewhat homey atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in a tavern somewhere in Italy. It has a couple of tables seating 4, and a counter seating 8. While the restaurant is windowless, it is just intimate enough without making you feel claustrophobic.

The main draw of this restaurant is that the chef trained to handle fish at the three Michelin starred Sushi Yoshitake, and procures his fish from the same supplier. While I haven't been to Sushi Yoshitake, and I have been to some pretty upscale Japanese-style Italian omakase, I was very curious to see how would top grade fish end up when served in a casual Italian setting. This restaurant is featured in the Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  Burrata: Loaded with sweet fruits

Breads basket

White Asparagus: Creamy egg and very nice fragrance!

Iwashi Confit: Nice oiliness and umami, slightly bitter.

Awabi, Seafood Ragu Risotto: Excellent umami, very fragrant. The awabi and various seafood were bouncy and very fresh.

Hotaru Ika Tomato Pasta: Very balanced flavor.

Wagyu Suji Nikomi Pasta: The gristle had a nice crunch.

Yet another round of bread

Madara (cod) Acqua Pazza (4200 yen): Comforting broth, accentuated by the fragrance of olive oil. However I found the fish quality to be middling.

Wagyu Sankaku Roast (5500 yen) : This cut had a bit of nice chew and a lot of flavor. Served with some mushrooms and a slightly overcooked onsen egg.

The Michelin Man

Overall, the premise of this restaurant didn't disappoint. Every dish was tasty, fresh, and hit the spot. Considering that reservations are not hard, I can see this becoming my go-to spot for Italian-style seafood in Tokyo.

Budget: ¥29000 for the items above including drinks and various charges. Antipasti generally around 3000 yen, pasta around 2500 yen, bread is charged 220 yen per person and there is a table charge of 550 yen per person
Score: 8.8/10
